Merino Wool is such an amazing fiber that we didn’t consider anything else when it came to designing a sock. I had the opportunity to meet Euan and his daughter Gabrielle of New Zealand Sock Company years ago and have been working with them ever since our first attempt at a sock. Luckily, this family owned business has been around for quite some time and they design socks for companies all over the world, so I couldn’t stray too far. We call this sock the Hybrid because we combined a traditional fashion sock with a hiking sock to create what we feel is a more versatile sock for daily wear, yet still durable enough for your next journey.

The majority of the sock is made up of merino wool and then we’ve added nylon for durability and elastane to help the sock keep its shape and from sliding down your ankle. I picked up my first sample from The NZ Sock Co. at Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake a few years ago and set out that night on a long hike to test them out. A friend and I decided to summit Lone Peak in the dark which turned out to be quite the experience. We decided to take a different route to the top which primarily consisted of game trails and plenty of bushwhacking. The hike itself ended up being about 11 miles with roughly 5- 6,000 ft of elevation gain. When we got back to the parking lot the only thing that was still dry were my socks, and they smelled fabulous. Yes, I smelled them. I think I made it back to the hotel at 4:30am.
